I put a small load of laundry on about 10:15 pm Saturday night. and went back to my room to watch TV. Around 11:30 I went into my bathroom and heard water running. As I walked down the hall towards the laundry room, I realized the house was flooded; water was standing in the formal dining, den, kitchen, 2 hallways, laundry room and sunroom. the washer has gotten stuck on fill.

I took up all the throw rugs, moved as much furniture as possible and started trying to move the water out into the garage and out the back door of the sunroom. After an hour and a half, it was obvious the water wasn't going anywhere. Early morning, Easter Sunday, I called a restoration company for water extraction. Monday morning, my mother called Standard Insurance and asked for a representative to come and inspect the damages done to the walls, base boards, kitchen cabinets and carpet. she was told they were too busy and couldn't come out until Friday. In the meantime, they wanted a written explanation of what happened. I sent them a report of the incident, plus the report and invoice from the restoration company. The house was beginning to smell like mildew, so I called a carpet company to come out for additional water extractions and fans.

After reading my report, Standard sent out a rep to inspect the house, and took pictures. He said the pictures would be read on Tuesday. He said anything we wanted to do was our responsibility.

The carpet company came back out again on Wednesday to bring additional fans and to deodorize again .

By Friday, we still hadn't heard from Standard as to what they were going to do. My mother called and was told there was nothing they were going to do as the policy she had only covered the house for act of nature. Who sells a homeowner a policy that only covers damages caused by acts of nature?!?!?! That makes no sense at all! what's the purpose of having a policy then. What a scam!

she called back on Monday, 4/9, hoping to get a better explanation of why they would not help with the damages or reimburse her for the repair services. After a long argument, the agent manipulate the clauses in the policy to use as "loop holes, and tried to confuse my mother. he became very curt and snarky and told my mother that she had bought a very cheap policy. She pays $143 a month for her policy; if that's a cheap policy, and it only covers acts of nature, what does a full coverage policy cost and what exactly does it cover??

This company is a sham; it's robbed consumers of their money and left them with worthless policies that can never be used while they are getting rich.

Is there a possibility that those of us that have been wronged by Standard can collectively sue them in a civil suit? Standard Insurance needs to be held accountable for stealing our money and selling us a product that they know we'll never be able to use under normal circumstances.

Reason of review: sold an insurance policy that is worthless.

Monetary Loss: $1500.

Preferred solution: Full refund.
